I actually learned a lot from this article, I had no idea Robert Downey Jr. was ever a drug addict. I had no idea how much trouble he had gotten himself into when he was younger. I think that this article made a lot of good points. You can’t sit there and blame someone else for all the problems in your life. You have to take responsibility for things. Making excuses will only make sure that you don’t reach success. Another point I liked from this article was that if you never own up and take responsibility for your mistakes and failures you will continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. Although this article was not very long I think there was a lot to learn from it. If you don’t take responsibility you lose control of your life.
I think this article was very good. I liked all the points it made. The 8 questions I think are extremely relevant to everyday life. I liked how instead of just listing the questions it give examples from CEO’s of different companies.
Do you really need to buy that? This is a question I need to start asking myself a lot more. I spend too much money on things I don’t even need. What hard thing are you not doing enough? The first thing that comes to mind when I read this question to myself is working out. Lately I have gotten lazy and have not been working out as much as I should. What is today’s single most important goal? At the beginning of everyday I am going to start asking myself this question and I am going to work hard to meet my goal every day. What time do you wake up? I know especially lately I have not been waking up as early as I should. I could get so much more done in my day if I just got up an hour earlier. http://www.ziglar.com/personal-development/personality-or-character
The blog I read was all about personal development. The blog talked about how many people would rather develop their personality as to their character because developing your character shows more immediate rewards as opposed to your character changes. I think in todays society this is very true. Not many people seem to have the patience to work for something anymore because everything else in life is high speed now a days. When you work at something that takes longer to reach your goal tyne reward is always much better than when you only work for a short time to reach a goal. I think a persons character says a lot about them and it is one of the most important things about you. Your character speaks for you, before you even have a chance to say a word. I think more people need to work to improve their character as opposed to just improving their personality. One quote I really liked from http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/b/brian_tracy.html was "successful people are simply those with successful habits". I liked this because no one is born successful, you have to work hard to get to where you want to be. Once you work hard every day it just becomes a habit. I really agree with this.
Another quote I really liked was " the key to success is to focus our conscience on things we desire not things we fear.". I picked this quote because often times we focus on things we fear and when we do that it holds us back from actually being successful but once you stop focusing on things you fear and you focus on things you desire you will become more successful. One of the quotes from Jim Rohn that really stood out to me was “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.". This could not be more true. I think you must have motivation to start something but once you do the same thing over and over you no longer need that motivation because now you formed a habit. I think finding the motivation to form a habit is one of the hardest things to do though. Another quote that really stood out to me was “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom.”. I think many times when someone is going through a hard time they just wish things were easier when in reality we should be wishing we had more strength. I know in past experiences in my own life when things got hard I wished it was easier but after reading this it really opened my eyes to the fact that we should work harder to be better and then things won't seem so hard.
One leadership moment I had over spring break was when we were going through the airport on our way to The Dominican Republic. When we landed in Atlanta none of us were sure of where we needed to go. I found the right screen to look for where our gate was. I found the right flight number then figured out where we needed to go to get to the gate because Atlanta is such a big airport it was very confusing. But we figured it out. We had such a great trip and it was well worth being kind of confused on where to go to spend a week down in the Caribbean. I think others should be a little smarter than we were and look at the airport layout before they go so they have everything planned out ahead of time. It was a little stressful because we didn't have that long of a layover but we made it on time. "There is no elevator to success…you have to take the stairs." _Zig Ziglar The second I read this quote I realized how true it is. No matter what your goal is in life you have to work for it. You can't expect to start and the rest be done for you like an elevator. You have to make the effort to get a step closer with each and every step you take. With an elevator you just have to step through the doors, push a button and you are taken to where you want to go but that isn't how life works. You have to make the effort, you have to work each and every day to get yourself to where you want to be. Many times in my life I expected things to be given to me, but in time I realized I have to actually work for things I want in life. I can't act like anyone owes me anything, I have to go out and make the effort to earn things. One quote that hit me pretty hard from Mr.Daly's Blog was " The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be." - Ralph Waldo Emerson. This really made me think about who I am now and who I want to become in the future. I have had my life "planned" out many times. In the fall I was dead set on going to Grand Valley in the Fall of 2015 for college, then in December I decided I wanted to attend Wayne State University, and now I am torn between going to Wayne State University or enlisting in the Army. I decided I wanted to make a bigger impact on other's lives. I want to be able to travel the world but be able to help others at the same time. The army has almost endless possibilities when it comes to traveling and helping others. Although I haven't exactly discussed this with my parents at this point, joining the army seems like a very strong possibility for my future.
