Reflective Essay
Over the last few months in Honors 1000 I learned not only about present day Detroit but also a lot about its history. All of the readings helped me learn about what Detroit was like back in the early 1900’s and how much it has changed since. Detroit is looked down upon a lot but I learned in this class that Detroit is on the rise. Detroit has many opportunities and many different programs that are helping Detroit come back from where it fell to in the 1960's/1970's. Before this class I never really read into the history of Detroit but after this class I am a lot more interested in learning more about the history. Our assignments not only had us read into the history of the city but we also took trips down to see what these place are like now. For example, over the course of the semester we visited Eastern Market, The Renaissance Center, The Redford Theatre and The Hillberry Theatre. All of these events helped me learn how much spirit and soul the city still has even after the downfall of the economy, and the riots. This course is helping shape by future by influencing my interest. I have since realized I am much more interest in learning more in depth in the city of Detroit.

Essay one helped me develop as a historically accurate fictional writer. This assignment helped me imagine what it was like to be an immigrant to america from Italy in 1909. I included this in my portfolio because I feel this was some of my best writing over the last few months in this course. While completing this piece of work I learned a lot about what the immigrants from the 1900's felt like and what they went through once they were here.
Essay two was a little more interesting to me than essay one. I enjoyed actually going down to The Renaissance Center to learn about the physical aspects of it. This essay helped me develop my research skills as a writer. I learned a lot about The Renaissance Complex Center and why General Motors decided to move into The Renaissance Center.
