Kaitlyn Bartl
Hello, My name is Kaitlyn Bartl. I am a eighteen year old freshman at Wayne State University. I have lived in St. Clair Shores, Michigan my entire life, although I love to travel to new places as often as I can. I live with my parents and my older brother. I have been an animal lover all my life, right now I have two dogs, Trigger and Remington, although previously I have owned a variety of different pets. I graduated from Lake Shore High School in 2015.
My parents started me in sports at a young age. Over the years I have played softball, basketball, gymnastics and soccer. Sports have always been one of the most important things in my life. I started playing soccer when I was just four years old. In addition to teaching me how to be a team player, I have had a good way to clear my head when I've been stressed out. Since my freshman year I have played Varsity soccer for Lake Shore High School. My junior and senior years I was one of our captains. In addition I played travel soccer for eight years with Saint Clair Shores Select Soccer Club, I was also a Captain for two years with my travel team. Playing sports has also taught me how to be responsible and manage my time .
"Every great advance in science has issued from a new audacity of imagination". ~John Dewey, The Quest for Certainty, 1929. This quote describes my life. I have always been curious as to why things happen the way they do, which is why science has always been my favorite subject in school. I've always been fascinated in why things are the way they are in our lives. Science never fails to amaze me when I learn something new.
My future plans have changed many times over the years. As a child when I was in elementary school I remember being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, back then I probably said a princess or a professional athlete, anything that sounded amazing to a young child. Now if someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, the only thing that comes to mind is helpful. I want to do more with my life than just go to college and get a job that I will be at for the rest of my life. I want to make a difference in the world, I want to help people. Since I have decided I want to make a bigger impact of others lives, I have decided I am going to enlist in the United States Army Reserves. I want to be able to travel and help others at the same time. The Army would give me the opportunity to both of those, along with many other great opportunities. I am going to take a semester off of school at Wayne State to go to basic training and then job training. After I am done with that I will come home to resume school at Wayne State. Along with going to school I will be working one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer for the Army, although I could get deployed and be active duty if they needed me to be.
